Scheduled Date: Saturday 6th June, 2015
A beautiful place hidden away by a wall of towering mountains is Cameron Village. The village 5km long is located to the west of Paramin behing the Morne Coco Road. Deep down in its steep-sided valley the Blue Basin River flows majestically with the source originating from Meyah in Paramin. This is a land of simple and charming people who earn their income from the agriculture of small cash crops like chive, tomatoes, pepper and cabbage. The vast picturesque landscape is green and unspoiled. On the northern side of the river, the terrain remains uninhabited and over these rugged mountains there is the North Coast. Long Ago Villagers would hike over these mountains to camp and fish at a place called Perdu Mari or Lost Husband.
The journey to Blue Basin Falls will take two hours and starts at the Cameron playing field. The trail leads down to the river and on the other side diverts into the forest. The area was once an estate as evidence of dilapidated cacao trees stillexist. Above the main Blue Basin Falls, there are several pools to discover and known to villagers as White Hole, Coffin Hole and Tsou Falls because of their unique appearance. The return trip is a steep uphill climb and village tour guide Seppie will be on hand to assist hikers.
On Saturday, 14th June Fitness Walkers explore the Blue Basin Waterfall. For more information contact Mario 749-2956 or islandhikers.com
