Scheduled Date: Tuesday 5th January, 2016
A superb destination for a river adventure is 3 Pools situated along the Marianne River on the eastern end of Blanchisseuse. The twenty-minute walk to get there begins at the Spring Bridge and leads upstream alongside the riverbank. There is the option to do a longer circuit hike through the forest and come down the river. The area was once an estate and still existing unattended cacao, breadfruit and citrus trees.
The River has always been significant to the villagers of Blanchisseuse, which in French translates”Ladies River”. Another scenic spot located further upstream is the Avocat Falls, which flows from a tributary unto the main course. The river source originates from the watersheds of Brasso Seco and Morne La Croix, and it meanders in a northerly direction to the sea. The pools formed in the upper and narrow path of the river where it plunges from a broad plateau over a steep rock shelf. The kinetic energy of the water erodes the bottom to create deep basins. Separating the first and second Pools there is a naturally formed water-slide that adds excitement to the surroundings. The thrill seeker can climb the rocks of the 3rd Pool for a 15-foot jump. The hike is suitable for all ages and non-swimmers can relax in the shallow and safer areas of the 1st Pool.
